[Zack follows and folds his arms over his chest as he observes the staff. Looks pretty different from his cousin's orb thing. He's not sure what all the correct terms are to use.]
Yeah, healing seems pretty rare in general. I've tried a few things on my shoulder but nothing seems to get rid of the pain permanently. But at this point? I'm willing to try anything.
[He doesn't have any healing magic himself but not even Elliot's magic food works on it.]
[Felicia pursed her lips in thought, glancing at his shoulder for a moment before returning her gaze to his face as the details she had been ignoring clicked into place.]
...I've seen you at the hospital, haven't I?
[She asked quietly.]
I'm studying to be a physical therapist, and I shadow the people there sometimes as part of my schooling.
[Zack is quiet for a moment, watching her as she glances at him. He doesn't like to tell people he's injured or how he got such a bad long-term injury... It's mostly a pride thing. So, telling Felicia all this leaves him feeling slightly vulnerable. Just a bit. He shrugs it off with a smile.]
Yeah, you've seen me there. Maybe one day you'll be one of my therapists too. [He chuckles lightly.] Had some serious surgery about six months ago so I'm still recovering.
Guess that means I'll have to work even harder, since I might be helping two of my friends after I graduate.
[Her grin grew brighter at this, for now she had more fuel to add to her enthusiasm. Any other details were unnecessary at that point-- the rest of the story didn't matter as long as she knew what she was working with.
Felicia eagerly gave her staff a twirl in her hands.]
I warn you: I'm pretty sure this doesn't work on old injuries like what we're dealing with, but it might help with the pain for a little while. Is that okay?
[He has to smirk at the way she twirls her staff.]
Add me to the list. The faster I can finish my therapy the better.
[He really wants to get back to his old life on the military base.]
And hey, I'll take anything. It's been giving me a lot of griefly lately and getting even some of the pain to go away would be a damn miracle. So, how do you need me? Shirt off or something? Sitting?
[She can guarantee nothing-- only possibly a little relief, but likely not enough that would enable him to return to active duty. The details were stil somewhat fuzzy for her, but she was fairly certain this staff wouldn't work well on old wounds and scars.
That was no reason for her not to try.]
Whichever makes you most comfortable, [Felicia said, continuing to twirl the staff in her hands as if she were a magical girl.]
Other Me usually did this in the heat of the moment. Combat triage, I think? She would heal soldiers in the middle of a battle so they could keep fighting-- kind of like in a Monsters and Mazes game.
[Zack moves to sit down, then. He's not to sure how magic like this will feel and how it'll differ from his cousin's magic so probably better to sit down and try to relax through it.]
You got that baton twirl down pat. [He grins.] You know, I've noticed there's two type of people. People who talk about their past lives as if that person is a totally different person and then people who talk like they're one and the same.
[Just noting how Felicia seems to be the type to refer to her "other me" as an entirely different person. Where as Zack refers to his past life as himself.]
[She stopped twirling her staff at that point, thrown off just enough by the comment that her concentration was broken.]
It's hard to think of Other Me as being the same person that I am, [she explained quietly.] The world she's from has knights and ninjas and dragons... and she's terribly clumsy. I know I'm somewhat air headed, but I don't think I'm that bad.
It's not a bad thing. I just can't help but to think I'm the same person as that "other me" because there's so much in common there. How can I be getting that person's memories when it's not actually me?
[It's a complicated concept. But how can someone else have his face and be so much like him not actually be him?]
[Felicia sighed, and gave her staff another twirl to refocus her concentration on helping and healing Zack of his pain and injuries.]
I admit, I don't think about this stuff too much because it gets confusing. Sometimes, I'm not really sure what to think.
Except that all this is pretty cool, and the people who have the Retrospec app are all very nice.
[Stilling the staff, she held it above Zack's shoulder for a moment of silent concentration. The orb perched on it's tip glowed faintly in that moment, and Zack may even feel a warmth touching the places where he was in pain.]
[He glances at her when she sighs. He doesn't mean to drag down the mood, it was just an observation. Truth be told he's antsy as all hell about Retrospec and memories so he thinks about all that stuff all the time. His mind is over-active like that.
But then the magic comes and it's a strange feeling. He can feel some tension release and some of the pain seems to fade away. For good measure, he lifts his arm and then rolls his shoulder and stretches it. He can still feel the hurt muscles deep inside but there is a positive difference.]
Wow, that's great. This is ten times better than popping a painkiller or two.
[Felicia's mind was overactive as well-- with spur of the moment impulses and whimsical observations that may or may not be relevant to the current situation. Retrospec and the serious history it had in recent months within their fair city was something that Felicia didn't want to broach too much. She liked life, mostly, and Retrospec made everything Complicated.
And Complicated was difficult to deal with.]
You think so?
[Felicia asked, twirling her staff once again before bursting out into a grin.]
Pen and Freya thought so, too! It's nothing fancy like what some other people have, but sometimes something to help ease your pain is all you need.
[She looked up at him almost shyly, gladdened to have helped him in some way-- even if only just a little bit.]
I don't really know what to think of everything, but I'm learning a lot. And... unfortunately, I don't think this is a permanent fix. Since it's already healed, all I can really do is help you with the pain.
But, if you need help again.. feel free to call me, okay? I'll be glad to help you anytime.
Well, you did more for me in a few minutes than the doctors or my painkillers have done in weeks. So thanks, Felicia. That was pretty damn amazing.
[He stands and stretches his arms over his head, really feeling the way the muscles move a little easier and how the numbness and tension has lifted. He does a few mock air punches and then turns back to her to smile.]
Hope you don't mind if I call you a few times then. You wanna go for lunch sometime? My treat, as thanks.
[Her tone was that of gentle teasing as she spoke.]
Lunch sometime sounds great. Light has said so many good things about you that I've wanted to get to know you better, and any friend of Pen's has got to be a good person.
...I look forward to it, whenever your schedule is clear.
[He has to grin warmly at her response. He likes her sass and has to agree. Snake and Penelope are great people. He'll tease, but he appreciates them both a lot.]
I can work with that. I haven't been eating out much lately because Prompto keeps bringing me these great lunches while I'm working, but I think I got a few places in mind.
Dude set it up for me because I kept spending too much money on take-out which was really weird in the first place. Then he told me it was because of friend of his wanted to do it for me.
[Honestly, he still thinks Prompto might have been a little loopy that day.]
[Prompto is a little loopy on even good days-- but Felicia coyly smiled up at him and started to meander into the little kitchen that she liked to cook in.]
I... think I know why he might have seemed weird about it, [She confessed, a light blush gracing her cheeks as she spoke. Turning to face him, she opened up the fridge.
Inside were ingredients that may or may not be used to make the sorts of meals Zack had found in his lunches. Felicia waited, wondering how he would react.]

I'd say. For the most part, my shoulder is all healed up but it gets numb sometimes so this is great.
[Some days are worse than others. Felicia really helped out. He flexes the muscles in his bicep once more just to test it.]
So, do I thank you or other you? [He's teasing.]

[He mocks sounding really surprised about that one. That guy throws shade on him all the damn time. But they're friends. Zack laughs.]
I've known Pen a long time, don't trust all her judgements either.
[Penelope knows a lot of Zack's past. The hard stuff too.]
Great, lunch it is then. What kind of places do you like?
no subject
[Felicia exclaimed, her voice light and teasing as she thought of the people that she considered friends. Sure, they were weird... but, who wasn't?]
They're nothing but nice. Why wouldn't I trust them?
[A giggle.]
I'm okay with most anything, no worries. I like veggies, but I'm not picky either.

[She asked, feigning obliviousness.]

To be honest? Great, best food I've had in a while!
[Best food he's had since his mom used to cook for him.]
Prompto's been real weird about it though.

Weird in what way?

Then he puts the pieces together and looks at her with surprise.]
